About the project

ROOTS is an international cooperation project that empowers young people to become active participants in their communities through citizen journalism, media literacy, and non-formal education. Bringing together participants from Italy, Türkiye, and Syria, the project creates opportunities to explore identity, belonging, displacement, cultural heritage, and democratic participation through collaborative storytelling and community engagement.

Young people work alongside educators, journalists, researchers, and community organizations to develop skills in ethical journalism, digital communication, critical thinking, and media literacy. Through workshops, local activities, international exchanges, and the production of multimedia content, participants learn to document their communities, give voice to local experiences, and promote dialogue across cultures.

In Syria, Josoor Al Amal supports young people from North-West Aleppo in documenting the ongoing process of community recovery, highlighting local initiatives, cultural identity, and stories of resilience. By strengthening communication skills and encouraging active civic participation, the project contributes to building more inclusive, informed, and connected communities.
